The Life Sciences Discovery Garden is located on the southeast side of the Life Sciences Center and features plants that contribute to the quality of life. Plants include those used in medicines, and crop plants developed at MU that resist disease, pests and drought and improve nutrition. The garden is a gift from Lowell and Marian Miller. Dr. Lowell Miller, managed a pharmaceutical research and development team that developed numerous drugs to treat various ailments.

Hybird corn (Zea mays) bred at MU and Castor Bean (Ricnus communis) is used as a cathartic.
